Roughing Cycle – Undercut Stock Detection
Edgecam 2018 R1 introduces ‘Detect Undercut Stock’ which enhances the already powerful stock detection command by analyzing previously undetected areas of stock. This option helps to avoid ‘fresh-air’ cutting and thus reduces machining time. In certain case cycle time can be reduced by as much as 50%.

Rough Turn Cycle – Collision Check
Automatic collision detection has been added to the Rough Turning Cycle. Prior to this enhancement, a user would manually apply profile extensions to avoid collisions. As the user no longer has to intervene, time will be saved in initially creating the CAM instructions. Moreover, strategy manager authors may now use this new function produce safer toolpaths.

Unnecessary Regenerations Reduction
A major enhancement is the removal of unnecessary CAM regeneration. Specifically, when a user makes an edit to an existing command, Edgecam will not automatically regenerate the remainder of the instructions. When editing a tool command, users will notice that there is zero regeneration if the alteration doesn’t affect the corresponding cycles e.g. coolant, high-speed condition

Profiling Cycle – Spring Passes and Arc Feedrate Adjustment
Profiling cycle offers new ‘Spring Cuts’ command where the user can add extra cuts if required to improve accuracy. This is particularly useful on materials where elasticity is an issue.
Cycle time calculation has been improved through the new ‘Adjust Feedrate on Arcs’ command. The function will lead to both correct code and a more accurate cycle time calculation.

JT Open Files – Enhanced Datum
Edgecam 2018 R1 reacts to the growing popularity of a new, lightweight 3D model format by introducing support for JT Open file. Datum identification has become easier by way of different display markers. Users can now comprehensively edit a manually created milling feature. Formerly when extra edges were required, the feature had to be re-created.

Deep Hole Drilling Cycle
Edgecam 2018 R1 provides support for ‘Deep Hole Drilling’ – also known as ‘Gun Drilling’. When activated the new ‘Deep Hole’ strategy will empower the user to control entry, exit and intermediate drilling conditions.
This technique is particularly important where specialised ‘Gun Drilling’ tools are used and the process requires accurate and precise code output.
